I'm planning on a four to six months gap-year RTW trip. Prefer no set schedule and heading in generally one direction. Need suggestions and advice on transportation and lodging. Thanks!

Ken, since the focus on this board is travel in Europe, you may not find many people who have good advice about an "around the world" trip.
(My son has done it, but mainly as an interesting waynto get to India and back, he did not make many stops on the way). I suggest you try the Fodors.com travel forums. There are several people there who have done 'round the world trips and are very knowledgeable about the best strategy for inexpensive air tickets. I believe there is a way to do it for a set price on Star Alliance flights without booking everything in advance; you decide as you go, but must generally keep heading in the same direction.
