RS Rolling Carry-On as Ryanair Cabin Bag

We're heading to Sicily and Italy in February/March and plan to fly Ryanair once or twice. We'd like to fly at the Priority/Regular level which gives you 2 cabin bags (one under your seat and the other in the overhead compartment). The overhead bag must be no more than 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm.

We are interested in the RS Rolling Carry-On bag for our overhead bag, but it looks like the depth is a little too much (9" bag, but Ryanair says 20 cm depth - 7.87"). I believe we could probably under-fill the bag a little and be ok.

I'm curious what others who have tried this have found. Does this bag work on Ryanair overhead compartments?

Thanks!

RyanAir is very strict on their dimensions.

I believe it will come down to whether the bag fits into RyanAir's sizer. I don't know how flexible the RS bag is. I

It's really not a question of whether it fits in the overhead compartments. With RyanAir, if the gate staff deem it too large, you'll be forced to check it at a price considerably higher than you'd pay if you arranged for a checked bag beforehand.

If Ryanair says 20 cm, they mean 20 cm. Not 21 or 20.5 cm.

RyanAir is not the airline to think you can slip a half inch pass them. They love collecting fees on late checked bags. Stick to EasyJet.

21.65 inches by 15.74 inches by 7.87 inches to be exact.

It all depends on the mood of the gate keepers that day. Sometimes they're looking for one person to make an example out of. The legacy carriers are not so exact as they know carry on bags, even the larger ones, will fit in Boeing or Airbus overhead bins.

I use a TravelPro 21" carry on bag with swivel wheels. The wheels make mine 22". I've been caught oversize 3-4 times, and have been successful to argue nicely and talk my way all but once on Norwegian Air.

We usually fly EasyJet when in Europe.

I flew Ryanair for the first time last month from Dublin to Glasgow. I prepaid to check my bag for the reasons everyone else is giving. I didn’t see anyone having to use the sizers, but that doesn’t mean anything. If you aren’t within the dimensions allowed I would pay ahead to check.

I have flown EasyJet, Ryan Air, Wizz Air and they are all pretty much the same.

The only fool proof solution is follow the rules: Ryanair: Unspecified weight 40 x 20 x 25 cm under seat bag PLUS one 10 kg 55 x 40 x 20 cm carry-on for 6 euro https://help.ryanair.com/hc/en-us/articles/360017824658-Ryanair-s-Bag-Policy

Any suggestion of flying another carrier only makes sense is they are going where you want to go, but: EasyJet: 15 kg 45 x 36 x 20 cm under seat bag PLUS one 15kg 56 x 45 x 25 cm carry-on for an extra cost https://www.easyjet.com/en/help/baggage/cabin-bag-and-hold-luggage or WizzAir: 10 kg 40 x 30 x 20 cm under seat bag PLUS one 10 kg 55 x 40 x 23 cm carry-on for an additional cost https://wizzair.com/en-gb/information-and-services/travel-information/baggage

To be fair, they all allow 10 to 15 + kg of carry on free and 20 to 30+ kg of carry-on luggage for a little more $$$
