Have been on multiple train sites (Deutsche Bahn, OeBB, Czech Railways) trying to get round trip tickets for travel in October. I keep getting told that I can't purchase them online but I don't see a reason why on the websites. I have purchased online train tickets before between two different countries. Is it because the Czech Republic is involved? Anyone have any comments on this?
Robert,
If you book too far out you sometimes get that error.
Try doing a faux booking 2 weeks out and see what happens.
In general the (my) Rule of Thumb (ROT) is 3 months out is the max but some places less.
what do is work my way out until i get the error and use that number.
happy trails.
Sometimes if the system won't let you buy a round-trip ticket, you have to buy a one-way ticket and complete this transaction, then do a whole separate transaction for the return (I had this once with French Rail). Since there's no discount for buying a round-trip ticket, this doesn't cost more, although it is a bit more hassle.
Just purchase your tickets after your arrival there.
In Europe, some countries are more difficult to purchase inter country tickets than others. We experienced the same thing trying to purchase tickets from Budapest to Bratislava.
Sometimes we have to roll with the flow.
If you are starting from Vienna, Oebb.at can currently sell you tickets from Vienna to Prague through October and also allows you to add a return ticket. If you are starting from Prague, you will probably have to use the Czech web site for that first departure, or purchase the ticket at a train station or travel agency in Europe. DB doesn't sell this route.
