My husband and I are travelling by train from Rouen to Brugge (looks like a bit of journey for one day!) but I am having a hard time figuring out the trains. We are travelling on August 22. Is the best website for train schedules DBahn? It looks as though there is a train leaving Rouen at 8:59am and arriving in Brugge at 1:37. It looks like a bit of a complicated journey, switching train stations in Paris and then a few more times after that. Can anyone offer an opinion whether this is manageable with the time between transfers? If not, which train would be a little more straight forward? Thanks for your help!
There is a route with fewer connections that takes only a little bit longer.
Leave Rouen-Rive-Droite at 08:59 and arrive at Gare Saint-Lazare at 10:10.
Take the RER E from Hausmann--Saint-Lazare to Magenta (the station is attached to Gare du Nord). It's a four-minute ride.
Take a Thalys train directly from Gare du Nord to Brugge, departing at 11:25 and arriving at 13:54. (Most Thalys trains do not stop in Brugge, but the one you need does.)
Thank you both for your help! I think the 8:59 is our best options. It's been a while since I've been in the train stations in Paris but I'm assuming transfering from Gare Saint-Lazare to the RER at Hausmann to Magenta is pretty straight forward?
You're welcome! I haven't ridden the RER E; but from the map of the metro and RER system, everything looks quite simple.
Hi Sarah,
Yes the switching between Gares on the RER in pretty straight forward. You'll head down the stairs one you arrive at St. Lazare, there will be many signs telling you which direction to go in. Look for the letter E with a circle around it. Once you get to Gare du Nord, follow the signs for Grande Lignes to get you up to the main train tracks at Gare du Nord
