In August, at the end of a cruise, I am traveling to Amsterdam from Rotterdam. I have never "soloed" in Europe before. Will I have any problems buying a ticket at Rotterdam Centraal Station and hauling my luggage on the train?
Just did it today--Amsterdam to Rotterdam round trip for a business call, and about an hour each way, and, the one through Schipol was about 10 minutes faster.
Suggest you use the kiosks for tickets as the office in Rotterdam(per usual) was a madhouse.
Easy trip. Simply buy your ticket at the station the day of your journey, no reservations necessary. There are departures every 10 minutes or so. Journey time is about 1 hour.
Thank you the quick reply. One less worry. Now if I can just get there in the first place. Flying British Air to London. Strikes and ash.
At Rotterdam Centraal if your luggage is heavy you can use elevators to get up to platform level.
When the train stops be ready to hop on; they don't stay still very long. If you hear the conductor whistle for your train step back.
There will be another along soon.
If you see a "Stoptrein" it will do what it says on the sign, it will stop a lot. Wait for a faster one. Also, if it goes via Haarlem it will go a slower route. Take a train that is via Schipol airport. That's the most direct route.
You will, most likely, want Amsterdam Centraal.
