I will staying in Colmar France a couple days and then on to Rothenburg Germany. What is the best or easiest train route? Thanks Duane
Go to bahn.de and see what they say. I would expect three or four train changes but that is the way you have to do it. No direct trains.
Just off the top of my head, I would say Colmar to Strasbourg, Strasbourg to Stuttgart, Stuttgart to Ansbach, Ansbach to Steinach, Steinach to Rothenburg (4 changes). Use the German Rail (Bahn) website. But, train changes in German are common and no big deal. Know the track you are coming into and the track you are going out on. Before the train comes to a halt, collect your things and go to the end of the car so you can get off when it stops. When you get off, locate the stairs (unless you have a cross platform change), go down into the tunnel, find the number (displayed over the stairs) of the new track. No need (usually) to break your neck rushing, but don't dawdle. Stay with the herd. The conductor will be standing on the platform watching passengers load and isn't going to release the train while people are getting on.
