Rome: Transport from airport to Pantheon area

We will be dropping off our rental car in Rome on a Sunday in July. The only Avis rental car depot that is open on Sunday in Rome is at the airport. We had the option of parking it overnight near our accommodation at the Pantheon and returning it to the depot near the Borghese gardens the next morning - requiring that we find a parking station and avoid time limited zones - these appear to be different for day and night. To save getting caught in the peak hour traffic and time limited zones we thought that we would just drop off the car at the airport on the Sunday late afternoon. There will be 5 of us in our travel group and we were just wondering what would be the best way to travel back to our accommodation at the Pantheon area.

I would take the express train from the airport to the termini in Rome. I think it costs around 14 Euros now but it gets you there in about 30 minutes.

Once there, you can take a bus to the Pantheon area or if everyone in your group is fairly fit, it is a nice walk with lots to see in between. Enjoy!1

With five people, you may be better off with a van service. Figure with about 15 euro each by taking the train (express then bus) you have a bydget of 75 euro to work with and you will avoid having to drag bags around. There are also now several bus services from the airport that claim to drop you off at or near your hotel that are economical. If you do the train thing an alternate option would be to take the FR1 from the airport (the other train, not the express) and get off at Trastevere Station (Ticket 5.50 Euro) then catch Tram 8 (1 euro ticket) and take it to the end of the line in Largo Argentina, which is close, but still a walk, from the Pantheon.

Google "airport ground transportation" for FCO and look at the options.

Send an Email to Rome Cabs and ask them for a quote. Stephano will give you a fime price, and a phone number that you can use to confirm your trip. His service is excellent. We just used him to transfer us from Ciampino to Fiumicino, and it only cost us $45EU for a private transfer in a Mercedes.

You might email your hotel to see what it would cost for them to arrange a car to pick you up. Most of the hotels seem to offer this service. Mine near the Pantheon is charging 65 euros for a driver with an "air conditioned Mercedes" to meet us at the arrivals area. It's a luxury for us but seems reasonable for the convenience -- and I can call the hotel if there's any problem.
