Any suggestions for getting from Rome hotel to cruise port at Civatavecchia and return? Thanks TC
Train. It's so easy and not very expensive. There is a short walk from the train station to the port. You can see a great description with pictures of this walk at www.roninrome.com
It is a commuter run with about three trains an hour from 45 mins to 1:15 depending on the train and fare is 8 to 12E depending on train. The train station is about half mile from the port entrance and very walkable but a shuttle for available line will be long and taxis very expensive for the short drive. You should be able to see your ship from the train station. If returning to Rome after the cruise buy a RT open, second class ticket so you can just board the train when you return. The ticket line to buy tickets will be very long when the ship docks especially if more than one ship in port.
We will be transiting from Rome Fiumicino to Termini, and then Termini to Civatavecchia. Can we purchase tix for both trips on our Rome Fiumicino to Termini leg?
Sure, there is a ticket office to your left when you enter the waiting area. Buy all your tickets there. Double check the track locations for the Civit... The last time we were there your exit the L Express and turn LEFT to get to the Civit platform. The general flow of people will be to the right towards the front of Termini.
If luggage is an issue - no porters at Italian train stations - consider a car service such as www.romecabs.com which is great. If you want to cut costs, go on the cruisecritic.com board for your cruise and see if anyone wants to share transport.
Thanks for all the replies both on the board and privately. It helps a lot to hear it from those who have done it. TC
