Rome to Paris transportation

Help! I thought it would be cheap to fly from Rome to Paris, but the date I'm looking at (12/26) is a pricey one even on ryanair and easyjet. We're open to a train but I'm having a horrible time navigating the websites. Any quick and easy tips on figuring out fares and schedules from Rome to Paris?

Thanks so much!

Vueling shows a morning flight for €165 and an evening flight for €145 for 26 December--Fiumicino to CDG.

IMO, the direct night train is your best train option. Get timetables and fares on the Trenitalia site. Note, however, that North American credit cards have not been accepted on that site for some time. Since popular night trains can sell out weeks in advance, it probably would be safest to book NOW at www.raileurope.com. (You'll pay more, but you'll be certain to have a ticket.)

I found the night train alot more expensive then flying this summer, , but regardless, it is Christmas holiday and any transportation is going to cost more. Also its a bit late to try for any deals, I would just take what I could find at this point Rena. Good luck.

Rates for the date you have chosen can be higher by air, but will not be on RR tickets.

When you arrive in Rome, go to a RR station and ask about fares and schedules to Paris. Then you can make your choice based on cost and time used for travel.

I'd like to just find a train once we get to Italy, as booking a train on the websites seems almost impossible (at least, on Trenitalia). But does anyone know if these things sell out? This is obviously a high travel day.

Since the direct night train is very popular, I imagine it will be sold out by the time you get to Rome.

Have you checked the timetables at www.bahn.de? They show two daytime routes: (1) Roma-Bologna-Milano-Geneve-Paris in 14 hours, and (2) Roma-Bologna-Milano-Paris in 13 1/2 hours. I have no advice to give concerning the availability of tickets for each of those legs during the Christmas season.

While I love trains, IMO, flying is your best choice for last-minute booking. You won't have to worry about any sold out train legs. Did you check the Vueling site as I suggested above?
