Rome to Palermo

Well I have not run across this situation before. We have had direct flights in all of our previous trips.
This time we are flying from Toronto to Rome Air Canada - land terminal 3. We then have 2 hours for our continuation flight on
ITA Airways out of Terminal 1 to Palermo.
MY Question. Do we have to claim our bags - go through security- walk them over to Terminal 1 to ITA and obtain another
boarding pass and recheck our bags??
OR - Will our bags be checked through to Palermo and we would just go through security without our bags to Terminal 1.
I called Air Canada and the lady there could not fully answer my question.

Hi Badger
It is a single ticket but I did have to book a seat on lTA separately. Never had to that before.

Your bag (or at least my travel friends’ bags did) should ship all the way to Palermo if you’re traveling on a single ticket purchased through Air Canada since it has a relationship with ITA. When checking your bag confirm that the claim check lists Palermo as your destination. At the time we flew Delta and connected with what was then known as Alitalia (at FCO) as they were codesharing.

I’ve booked upcoming flights this year and in the past with Delta/KLM and had to contact KLM for seat assignments. Sometimes I’ve been able to simply handle this online. I’m absolutely confident that the checked bags from our group will reach the intended destination when handled at the transit airport.

Just aware that when you are looking for your luggage in Palermo it will not be on the delivery line for the domestic travelers, but on a different one when you arrive for international arrivals.

Untrue.
Rome to Palermo is a domestic flight….all bags go to the same carousel, no matter where those passengers came from before Rome!

Sent you a pm with info.

Last time I flew through Rome to Palermo, I went through immigration in Rome and customs in Palermo. Luggage transferred from international flights came into a segregated claim area.

Thank you all for your input.
I hope 2 hours is enough to get through security and get to Terminal 1 .I gather it is a bit of a walk.
Hopefully I receive a boarding pass for the ITA portion of the trip in Toronto.

For international flights I always obtain a paper boarding pass. However, I’m experiencing more airlines encouraging the use of their app to generate the boarding pass. You may want to see if this option is available with ITA.

Shelley.....don't forget, you will go through immigration/passport control in Rome. Not just security.
