Rome to Padua train

If I'm reading correctly, it looks like there are multiple trains per day from Rome to Padua. Has anyone traveled to Padua from Rome by train recently? Is this relatively easy to do? Is there anything I should know ahead of time?
Thanks!

These are high speed trains and discounts are available for nonrefundable advance purchased tickets, basically like airline tickets. Also, there is competition on this route between Trenitalia and Italtreno. Italo trains are just as nice (nicer some say), just as fast, and a little less frequent but often less expensive.

One note, Ruth? If researching your journey on the Trenitalia website, you want to use the Italian spelling for Padua, which is PADOVA. Your starting point in Rome is very likely Roma Termini, which is the main train station. :O)

Ruth,

There are indeed multiple high speed trains each day from Rome to Padova, as it's on the way to Venice.

Yes, it's very easy to do. You can travel either via Trenitalia or Italo, and you can either buy tickets online at their respective websites, from one of the kiosks at the stations (they have English-language options and are very user friendly), or from a staffed ticket office. The railways also have Apps that can be loaded on your phone (assuming you'll be travelling with a smart phone).

With the high speed trains, there's one important point to note..... the tickets include compulsory seat reservations, and those are specific to train, date and departure time, and can ONLY be used on the one train listed on the ticket. The tickets will specify your Carrozza (coach no.) and Posti (seat no.'s). If you board the wrong train, even by mistake, you'll be subject to hefty fines which will be collected on the spot.

This is a bit "dated", but you might find it useful - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6n8rITO1Eek .
