I will need to get from Rome to Innsbruck in a couple of weeks. There seems to be no direct flight to Innsbruck, but some options to fly to Bolzana or Memmingen or Munich instead and take train from there. There is also a night train from Rome to Muncih that stops in Innsbruck, but there is no option to book tickets for it online and I don't know whether I need to have any advance reservation or just buy ticket at teh train station same day?. Does anybody have any advice on the best / most convinient transpostion option? Thank you!
"There is also a night train from Rome to Munich that stops in Innsbruck, but there is no option to book tickets for it online" Your biggest problem might be that you have waited so long that you might not be able to find reservations for the accommodations you want on a night train. The CNL train (CNL 493) is bookable online from the Bahn website, but it doesn't stop in Innsbruck. However, it stops in Rosenheim, the first major station in Germany after Innsbruck. If you book it to Rosenheim, you could catch any of many train back to Innsbruck.
Thanks, Lee. I was thinking of CNL 485, it seem to stop in Innsbruck but doesn't allow online booking.
I just checked the German Rail site and found a different train number altogether: CNL 484 from Rome to Munich with a stop in Innsbruck at 04:31. You could book a ticket on the German Rail site from Rome to Rosenheim or Munich and get off at Innsbruck. As Lee said, you may have waited too long to get the kind of accommodations you want. And if you wait until you get to Rome, the train is virtually certain to be sold out.
