Have you checked flights from Rome to Nice? Easyjet flies this route. From the Nice airport there are buses that would get you to Cannes.

Thank you! That's very helpful. I've been reading great things about Nice. Have you been? Nice vs. Cannes...what do you recommend if a choice must be made?

Katie, I've stayed in both Nice and Antibes and also visited Cannes as a day trip from Antibes. It was 10 years ago, but I'm going to be in that region again in May so had been doing a bit of research on travel options. I spent about a week in Antibes ... the whole point was just to relax. I stayed in the old town, went swimming at the small beach, and had many dinners at the outdoor cafes. There is not a lot to do in Antibes, but the old town has nice ambience. While I was there I took day trips to both Cannes and Nice. As you might imagine, Cannes is very high end. Nice is a fairly large city. Interesting market. Chagall museum and some others. A large beach area. There are many places to stay in this area. Read up on the towns to see what appeals to you.

Katie, we have flown blu-express a few times from Rome to Nice. New planes, comfortable flights, and the best prices for the route. I'd recommend them, and for more info on traveling on budget airlines in Europe (it is different!), read this article!
