Should we buy point to point tkts or should we buy some type of Rail Pass? Our stay is 4/3/12-4/12/12 Our travel plan is the topic.
Annice, most of the time rail passes are not worth their value in Italy. In your case, the train from Napoli Centrale to Sorrento is a local train, called the Circumvesuviana, and is NOT covered by a rail pass - so all the more reason NOT to buy one. You can get point-to-point tickets once you're in Italy, or if you don't mind locking down your date, time, and train of travel in advance, you can pre-purchase train tickets online, go "ticketless", and take advantage of Trenitalia promotions like the MINI discount. If you'd rather wait, and retain some flexibility, then you can use the kiosks in the Trenitaliatrain stations. They are easy to use and have an English option. See the link for a step-by-step tutorial. Good Luck!
