You list Wind Jet on your budget airline list for Italy, but Wind Jet suspended all flights as of August 2012. Can you recommend another budget airline to use for flights from Rome or Naples to Sicily?
Blu-express will fly you from Rome to Palermo or Catania. Air Italy will fly you from Naples to Catania. No discounter flies Naples to Palermo. http://www.blu-express.com/en/index.html http://www.airitaly.it/en/index.aspx
Kristin, The easiest flight option from Rome to Sicily (Palermo) is via EasyJet. I can tell you that it's an "easy" flight, as I travelled that route recently. I believe they have three flights per day, and prices are currently as cheap as €45.49 (plus a few "fees" of course). Note that they often use a "sliding scale" so prices may increase as the flight fills up. Note that with many of the budget airlines in Europe, only ONE carry-on item is permitted, so be sure to keep this in mind on flight day. Also, if you find that your checked luggage will be over their allowable limit, it will be cheaper to pay for the overweight charges at the time of booking, rather than at the gate. After you've collected your checked luggage in Palermo, walk outside and to the right, where you'll find a small ticket booth for the Shuttle Bus into the city. Price is currently €6.10. The Bus stops at several locations along the way, but the Teatro Politeama stop seems to be about the most central. Happy travels!
Thanks for the budget Italian airline info. I just went online and tried to book the flights with the airlines you suggested for next July, but it said "no flights available". I assume it's too far out. Do you know how early you can book with these discount Italian airlines?
