Rome Fiumicino Airport

Can someone tell me if I arrive in Rome from Terminal A and if I depart from Terminal C -- if these terminals are connected in some way. I have been the website and cannot tell if you can walk to one terminal from another.

Thanks, MT

Laurie - Thanks for the info. I have been to that link and see the different terminal maps but it still doesn't tell me if each terminal is connected. I am pretty sure that they are, just thought someone who has been there might know.

Thanks

Marsha - the terminals are connected - well, sort of.

Once you are behind security you can move from one terminal to another. But Terminal A is considered a domestic terminal and Terminal C is an "international" terminal. So to go from one to another you would have to go through passport control each way... To go from A to AA or to B is far easier than to go from A to C.

I did your exact trip about 18 months ago as we came in from Nice and connected to Bulgaria and after being "processed" we walked over to Terminal C. Although there have been many security changes since then (opening of new Terminal 5 for example) it appears you can still do this... Unfortunately< I so not have more current info as we primarily come and go from Terminal B - we are traveling inside EU countries most often. But I did see the passport control station as I walked out of Terminal B security a few weeks ago. Hope that helps.

Thank you so very much. So, I can walk from A to C and will have to go through security but it shouldn't take me over 20 minutes? What do you think? I appreciate the information very much. :)

Well, you have to go through passport control which IS NOT like XRAY security - it is passports and papers, but this can create some lines and delays...

Once in "C" Terminal it depends on where your gate is and where you are headed (USA?). There is a "C" Terminal and there is also a "Satellite C" terminal. You have to ride a train across the skybridge to the satellite terminal.... so I would not say it would be 20 minutes or less unless I knew where you C gate was.... FCO is not as spread out as some of the other Euro airports but it can still be a hike!

Yes it would be to terminal C for the US. I have about 1 hour and 1/2 to get from A to C. I just wanted to know if with all the passport desks, etc., if I could walk it. Thanks for all your valuable help w/ this.

When leaving Rome, you should let your taxi driver know that you are U.S. bound and that you need to be dropped off at Terminal 5. Terminal 5 is a special terminal for U.S. and Israel bound flights because of the tighter security requirements. You will perform your check-in at the ticket counter there and check your baggage and have your passport inspected before getting on a shuttle bus to the main terminal for departure. This is one very important detail that was left out.

John, thank you. I am sure I left things out as well. I will be flying into Rome in Terminal A. My airline ticket says that I depart from Terminal C. I am trying to find out if I can walk from A to C. I also have read that there is a terminal 5 now so I have no idea if I go to C or do I go to 5 and if there is clear signs for shuttles to take you to these terminals or can I walk them -- I have less than 2 hours from A to C. Thanks a bunch. Marsha :)

Yes, you can get there by foot, partly. The part of Terminal C that you will most likely depart from is separate from the main terminal but is accessed via a skytram. You should have no problem getting to your connecting flight as long as your arriving flight is on time and you don't have to re-check any baggage. Here is a general layout of the terminals.

I am assuming that you are catching a connecting flight and not leaving from Rome. If you are not leaving from Rome, then you may not have to go through Terminal 5, since you would have gone through security at your departure airport. From where are you departing? Originally, I thought you were departing from Rome and therefore you would have to go through Terminal 5 first.

No, I am departing from Naples, Italy to Rome, Italy and from Rome to New York -- I will be flying Alitalia via Delta and am pretty sure per Delta that I will be leaving from Terminal C. I am just really nervous since I haven't been to that airport before and I am not sure how far away these terminals are from one another.

Sorry if this is too late to be useful for you, but I thought posting it might help others, too. I just returned to the US from Naples & went through the same scenario, leaving Naples by train.
In Italy, whenever you can, take a fast Intercity train--they're clean, comfortable (even 2nd class), safe and take about 2/3 to 1/2 the time the regular train takes [warning: www.trenitalia.it does not take non-EU issued credit cards; also, your ticket WILL be checked on the train]. All IC trains going into Rome go to Termini Station. There, buy your ticket (€11) for the Leonardo Express to Fiumicino airport at any news stand. (Cheaper than on the platform.) Follow the airplane-cutout signs: the express leaves from platform 25. [Plan on lots of walking! (with luggage)] You must stamp your ticket in any of the yellow validation boxes on the platform columns--tickets are good for only 90 minutes after validation. (You can wait till the train is in sight...)
When you get to the station at the airport (essentially inside the airport itself), proceed to Terminal C [NOTE: Oct 25 '09 this combines with Terminal B to become "Terminal 3"! (T5 stays T5)]
Walk [left] toward the high-numbered airline counters, then exit to the sidewalk at the last door. There are yellow shuttle buses (free!) that stop right there to take you and your luggage to T5. After you go through T5 you will be bused out to the outlying building of (former) Terminal C to go to your gate. So, don't worry about walking or getting a taxi to T5--it's not worth it.
Check FCO's website, www.adr.it, often--they are updating the site almost continuously nowadays.

I had a bad case of nerves about getting around FCO (& Italy) alone, but it's just so easy, there is no reason to worry! Ciao!
