rome arrival

Im leaving next weekend for Rome. this will be my 2nd time there. I would like to know if there's a cheaper way to get into Rome other than a Taxie from the airport. I remembered it being very pricie. I'm staying at the Courtyard Rome cental park. Thanks, Manny D

manny, The easiest and quickest way to get from FCO to Roma Termini is via the Leonardo Express (train). Fare is ~€14 and the trip is 35M (with no worries about traffic). As that's a Regionale, you MUST validate your ticket prior to boarding the train or face a hefty fine which will be collected on the spot (the fines start at €50 PP). Happy travels!

You can buy your Leonardo Express ticket from self-service kiosks or from vendors (they will have signs advertising the ticket). There is also a bus, but the train won't get stuck in traffic.

The cheapest is the SITUS bus at 8e. The Leonard Express at 16e(?) and taxi at 48e. Both bus and train go to Termini so you most likely would need a taxi from there.

Peruse Ron In Rome.com for details on the above options. Click on 'Transportation' and then 'To and From the Airport'. Lots of very good info! Remember - you can get 3 or 4 in a taxi for the same price...

The Terravision bus is the cheapest. It's only €4.00.

The only problem you may run into is that your hotel is nowhere near central Rome. It is miles and away northwest of even the Vatican. It does have a train station nearby (Gemelli) which is on the FR3 route, which is the way I would go. To do that you would take the FR1 train 5 stops to Trastevere station and change to the FR3 5 stops to Gemelli. See Ron in Rome's excellent description of the FR1 portion of the trip and his zoomable train station maps at http://www.roninrome.com/transportation/the-fr1-metropolitan-train-to-and-from-the-fiumicino-fco-airport. I would expect the taxi fare to be higher than normal because you will not be "Within the Walls" but far beyond.

Your shortest route into Rome from the Gemelli station would be to the Roma S. Pietro station adjacent to the Basilica 11min. Plenty of bus connections frome there.
