Without knowing exact where the Westin is, I would assume the taxi. It is fixed at 48E up to four people to anywhere within the old walls of Rome or the ancient city of Rome. PS Just checked the map. It is within the ancient walls and the fixed rate. If you can afford that place you can afford the taxi. It is well beyond my means.

Of course, just use the official starter and do not go with someone who walks up to you and asks if you need a cab, Just follow the signs in front of the airport.

Dale, Are you referring to the Westin Excelsior Rome? If so, their "official" recommendations are: www.starwoodhotels.com/westin/property/area/transportation.html?propertyID=70 Of the options shown, my preference would be to use the Leonardo Express (€14 PP, DON'T FORGET to validate prior to boarding the train) and then a Taxi from Roma Termini station. It's a method I've used in the past when staying at other hotels. I've never stayed at the Westin as it looks WAY above my budget. Of course, you could also take a Taxi from the airport right at the door of the hotel. Which option to choose will depend on your budget and personal preferences. Happy travels!

Dale, the starter is the guy who controls the line up of cabs- usually there is a roped cattle shute set up- same as here in the USA.

Dale, have you ever used taxis at major airport in the US before? Somewhere there will be big sign for taxis, local transportation, etc. In Rome it is right outside the luggage pick-up, Terminal 3. I think it is to the left but don't hold me to that as when didn't use a taxi on our last trip to Rome. There will be some type of a line - could be long, could be short - with someone at the head of the line matching up taxis with passengers. Four people with a lot of luggage will need a bigger taxi so they may be bypassed for two people use small taxis., etc. That is generally the taxi starter who is also making sure that the taxi is "authorized" or official. The information on the web site of the hotel is slightly in error in that the fixed rate for four and luggage is 48E and not 45. It was bumped up a couple of years ago. You might look at RoninRome.com for more information on the transit system in Rome.
