Rome Airport to Rome Train Station

Arriving in Rome @ 7:15 am Sat. Sept 23 - how long does it take to get from the airport to the train station? Should we just grab a taxi? We will be taking the train to Venice. Can we wait until we get to the station to buy our tickets to Venice or should we try to purchase tickets prior to our flight? Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

Please be VERY careful in Rome train station. in Sept. '07 my carry-on bag was stolen by a pair of theives... tickets, passports, jewelry, medicines, etc. etc. A tap on my shoulder diverted my attention, when I turned around the other theif ran off with my bag. BE CAREFUL... we heard from police this is common.

there are plenty of trains from Roma Termini to Venice, even on Sat. Take a look at http://www.trenitalia.it/en/index.html

You'll be fine buying the tix at Roma Termini, using the automated kiosks. Select the British flag and you'll get an english menu.

Hi Bill, the train from FCO to Termini takes about 31 minutes and leaves at five after or 35 after the hour.

So for you, you will likely catch the 8:35am train to Termini (or you may even catch the 8:05am). From there you can take the ES 9470 Rome to Venice departing at 10:57am arriving Venice @ 4:30pm. (It's a beautiful ride). This is direct non-stop high speed train. There's another one at 12:52pm.

You may want to consider purchasing the Rome to Venice ticket in advance, if you are able, given the high season and the fact that it's a Saturday.

When I arrived in Rome, I purchased all of my train tickets at the same time at the Trenitalia window at the airport.

Good luck!

Gela's suggestion is a good one. There will be several trains to Venice probably do check the transit times as some of the trains make several stops and take a lot longer.

Bill, I need to correct one thing - the EuroStar train is not "non-stop" but rather limited stops. If you take an EC train (EuroCity) or others, they stop at many more stops/towns and will take considerably longer.
