Rome Airport to City of Rome

What's the best way to get to Rome after we arrive at the airport to go to Rome? Taxi or train? There are 6 of us, three couples with 5-6 carry-ons and probably 5 check-in luggages. There seems to be a Leonardo Express that you can catch and arrive at Termini Station? Cost for train or taxi? Which is more effective or easier. I know the train is cheaper, but simplicity/difficulty?

The airport express shuttle train is simple to catch, but it is 6 train fares for you. How about trying www.romecabs.com and see if you can get one vehicle that will handle all of you and your luggage? In your case you would have to get two regular taxis, and that changes the comparison. Either way will work. The train is an express direct ride and not difficult to get, that was one of your questions.

I've booked a shuttle with www.romecabs.com. It's 45 euros for 2 ppl & 5 apiece for each one above that. Your group should be 65 euros. I think I read that the Leonardo Express is around 11 euros apiece....which is fine if you're staying very near Termini. Might be quicker b/c of traffic, but no cheaper.

There is another option for train besides the express. For 5.50 Euro you can catch one of the other trains from the airport station that stops at Trastevare station from which tram 8 takes you to central Rome, Ostiense station which is next to Pyramide metro station (Line B), and also on to Tiburtina Train station. As for easiest, a shuttle service arranged ahead of time is easiest. Taxi may seem so, but that would be assuming that the driver knows his way to the hotel based on the address. (A bad assumption) The train I find easy, but had time and web resources to learn the train/bus/metro system.

I've taken the train both times because it was convenient. Other options discussed here might be more affordable.

I did a search on google for "Rome Shuttle" and then contacted several companies via email. They post their prices right on their website, so you know what you will pay. I had a confirmation via email, and I paid the driver, nothing in advance over the net. Have cash ready for this purpose- hit the ATM first thing in the airport!

It is so wonderful to have a driver meet you just outside customs with your name on a sign. You know that he will take you right were you need to go, you know that you will not be ripped off by a taxi driver when you are excited about arriving, and jet lagged from travel!

Even if it costs a bit more than other means of transport...it's worth the extra E for peace of mind and convenience.
