I am flying my 19-year old to Milan, Italy for the Christmas holiday to visit relatives, departing from Boston. I have a choice of booking KLM (in which case the connecting flight to Milan is through AMS) or Alitalia (in which case the connecting flight to Milan is through FCO). There is about 1 hr 30 min to make the connection. Which airport is easier to navigate for a 19-year old?
Alitalia has a bad reputation for not being on-time (also strikes), losing luggage, and surly or non-existent customer service. Some will say they are OK. KLM has a much better reputation and would get my vote, as my Italian neighbor in the States uses them or Lufthansa exclusively. I don't believe that FCO would be a difficult airport to negotiate, as I have arrived and departed there myself. It is not very large. I don't know anything about the Amsterdam airport, so I can't help you there.
The Amsterdam Airport is very easy to navigate - I'd vote for AMS.
Thanks for all the advice.
I think AMS is one of the better airports in Europe for changing so I would probably choose the KLM route via AMS.
