Romanian buses

Does anyone have experience traveling on buses from city to city in Romania. We looking to travel from Sibiu to Cluj and have found a bus line called Fany but are having trouble booking on-line.

Have you read back through the Romania forum? I think there are some people who have done intra city busses and you could PM them to ask. They might miss your question.

I have only done intercity busses. And train tomorrow.

That's a good idea from TexasTravelMom, although I think she forgot that there is no Romania forum. 😊 However, I would check the Bulgaria forum where you will find quite a few threads on Romania. Or you could just do a search on the forum for Romania buses and see what you find.

My experience is very, very stale--from 2015. At that time, the Romanian bus situation was quite odd. On at least some routes you had to make a reservation ahead of time (but not pay for it). The tricky part was that you couldn't go to the bus station to do that, you had to telephone. Even if I kinda-sorta speak a bit of a foreign language (and I don't know any Romanian at all), I would not want to conduct business by telephone in a language other than English. I had (and still have) doubts about the likelihood of an English speaker working for a Romania bus company. Two kind Romanians made the necessary telephone calls for me, which I very much appreciated.

As I wrote, my experience was ten years ago. I think it's likely things have changed. You'll probably be safe to wait until you get to Sibiu and can check in person. If a phone call is required, your hotel or the local tourist office will probably be glad to help. For that matter, probably nearly any Romanian with whom you can communicate would take care of it for you.

I do think that it's probably changed now.

I was just in Romania a couple of months ago and booked regional trains and city buses and all of them had the ability to book tickets online and/or on their app. The process was very easy and I was able to save tickets in my Apple Wallet on my phone. So I can't believe that buses from city to city wouldn't have their same options.

Is there any reason you don't want to take the train? That might be faster

FWIW, here is a thread I found online about Fany buses: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g294457-i2816-k15284505-Fany_bus_not_respondingn-Romania.html
