RJ173 Train Seat Selection? May 13 Berlin-Dresden, May 15 Dresden-Prague

I have a questions about seat reservations for two train trips in Germany.

I have booked and paid for 2 train trips for me and my wife using the DB Navigator app:

May 13 - RJ 173 - Berlin to Dresden

May 15 - RJ 173 - Dresden to Prague

When I tried to make seat reservations, the app would not let me select the seats. The app said that it would automatically select the best seats for me.

I did not make a seat reservation for the May 13 trip, yet. Not being able to select my seats threw me for a loop. Since Berlin seems to be a major starting point, I figure that we might just arrive early and try to find 2 seats together.

For the May 15 trip, Dresden is in the middle of this major route, I thought it would be a good idea to use the seat reservation, even though I could not manually select the seats. The app put us in seats 94 and 98. Can anybody confirm for me that these seats are separated from each other?

Can anybody provide me with an explanation for what happened? Is there any way to manually select the seat reservations? I wonder if I should go back and make seat reservations for the May 13th trip, even automatically?

Thanks.

If you book two seats the system will, if possible, put you together.

94 and 98 are corridor seats, so you will be sitting across the corridor from each other. This train is a Czech Comfortjet, and it originates in Kiel, so Berlin is not the first station. You can reserve seats on the Czech site ( cd.cz ) even for trips within Germany, and there you can select the seats from a map. To do so just search for the train first, and then on the drop down that shows the starting price select "reservation only"

You can of course always swap seats, etc... For me the seat reservation is mostly to guarantee that I have a seat, not that I have a particular seat.
