Rhine River Side travel in Germany

We are 4 adults and one infant less than 1 year old, planning for a KD Cruise on Rhine river Germany one day trip on 13th or 14th April 2012. We are travelling from Eindhoven, NL and intend to return back the same day to Eindhoven in the night. We want the boat cruise to the section between Bingen or Bacharach, and Braubach. as his area has a high density of castles and scenery. Based on our above requirement please let us know the ideal KD pass to take and from which location in germany and at what time. We want to cover the above section and then get off at a location from where we can return back to eindhoven on the same day in the night. Also is the QDL or other regional offer tickets in German Rail valid for travel on Cologne, Mainz, Bonn, Koblemz, etc route. and is it possible to travel to these places on RE trains schedule and return back in the same night ?

K-D pass? The one time I rode a K-D boat, I just bought a ticket at the kiosk next to the boat dock. The website does say you get a discount by showing a Bahn ticket that you used to get there. You can see the fares here. Since you travel time will be mostly taken with the train from the Netherlands, I would suggest going down the river (NW) in the direction of Bingen or Bacharach to Braubach or Koblenz. Bacharach to Braubach takes about 2 hours in that direction. In the opposite direction it takes 3½ hours. Can you do it using a QdL-Ticket? Yes. Do I think it is advisable? No. Using regional trains, Eindhoven to Bacharach will take over 7 hours with 4 train changes; Koblenz back to Eindhoven is 6½ hours. You'll be spending 14 hours on trains for a two hour boat ride. If you use a QdL-Ticket, you'll need to buy Dutch Rail tickets for the segments outside of the Netherlands (Eindhoven to Kaldenkirchen and back). If you leave Eindhoven at 6 AM, you'll get to Kaldenkirchen after 9 and can start using the QdLT. It will take until 13:30 to reach Bacharach. The next boat leaves Bacharach at 15:15 and gets to Braubach at 17:20

Thanks a lot for the quick response. is there any other scenic places like forest, waterfalls, or castle locations in Germany or Belgium that we can enjoy in a day's trip from Eindhoven via train, may be some areas near dusseldorf or brussels ?? we dont typically enjoy city tours and prefer natural locations. kindly advise. thanks for your help
