I have a couple of questions about this ticket. If I understand correctly, we buy one of these and our family of 5 can travel in this region for 27 Euros. So, does this mean we could from Bacharach to moselkern, then from Moselkern to Cochem if we feel like it, then back to Bacharach...all for that one price? If so, then how do I find the timetables for those trains so we would know the times we have available as we are exploring? Thanks, Christine
As of Dec 12, they've changed the price structure on the Rheinland-Pfalz-Ticket. It's now €21 for the first person and €3 each for each additional person. So, for five people, it's €21 for the first person and €12 more for persons 2-5, €33 total. It's good for unlimited travel on all regional trains and most buses in Rheinland-Pfalz and Saarland, which includes everything between the Rhein River and France almost down to Bonn (Bonn is actually included as a border station). As usual, someone must sign the RL-P-Ticket and be with the group at all times. You can get all of the schedules on the German Rail website. The RL-P-Ticket is valid from 9 AM workdays and all day weekend days. BTW, if you were staying in St. Goar rather than Bacharach, you could use a VRM (Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Mosel) Minigruppen Tageskarte for €20 for five people. The VRM extends down the Rhein to the border with NordRhein-Westfalen (just below Remagen), up the Mosel to Bullay (a little beyond Cochem) and up the Rhein to Oberwesel (last stop before Bacharach).
Here's a map of the rail lines for Rheinland-Pfalz and Saarland (also covered by the R-P ticket.) You can travel to the "yellow-dot" cities just outside the region too - Bonn in the north, Wiesbaden to the east, and Karlsruhe to the south. www.vrminfo.de/fileadmin/data/pdf/2011/RPTicket-Karte.pdf
Here is another look at the track plan for validity of the RL-P Ticket. Note it is valid to Mannheim and Karlsruhe as well as on the route between them on the right bank of the Rhein.
THANK YOU!!! Those are exactly what I was lookin for. Christine
