returning A Rented Car in Caen Or Chrobourg

This summer we picked up a rental car in Lille and returned it in Caen. The rental car return in Caen was extremely easy, as the rental car offices are located across the street from the train station. Our rental was with Europcar, arranged through AutoEurope. I highly recommend going through AutoEurope, they were very easy to work with. We did not end up having to pay a fee to pick the car up in one location and drop it in another but with some rental agencies you do. You also pay a small surcharge (I think it was around 25 euros) to pick up or drop off the car at a train station.

We did the reverse, ferry from Portsmouth and picked up the rental across the street from the Caen RR station. There is a bus you must take from the RR station to the ferry port in Quistreham, about 10 miles. The Europecar office is open on Saturdays--I think all 3 or 4 car rental offices are open as well, and until 6PM. Car rental offices in smaller towns are closed earlier and on weekends.

You really should use something like Kayak.com. You can put in both a drop-off and a pick-up location and it'll spit out the companies that do what you want. Getting hung up on one touted outfit might be going the wrong way -- go for the bottom line on the bucks. Also, Kayak will check the ones recommended above if they have a deal that's close.
