I've been getting driving directions with Google maps--and several times (like near Remagen,Germany) the map directions say "Restricted Usage Road". Would anyone know what that means--is that like a toll road? Thanks!
Where exactly is this "restricted usage road"? I'll take a few stabs at what it might represent: 1) A pedestrian-only street in the middle of a town 2) A private road only accessible to residents (very rare) 3) A service road only open to utilities 4) An agricultural access road 5) A forest road. These are usually only accessible to licensed lumber and hunting vehicles (but anyone can walk through them). There's only one toll road I know of in all of Germany, and it's located far to the north. The only reason I can think of why you might see this designation in Remagen is if you're asking for direction to drive directly to doorstep of the museum... because you can't. You have to park a little distance away and walk about 50 meters.
Thanks, Tom
The restricted usage road is the very last step in the driving directions from Stavelot, Belgium to Remagen.
Are you using the address of the Remagen bridge museum as your endpoint? If so, that's probably why Google mentions the "restricted road". As I mentioned in my previous post, you can't drive directly up to the museum, but you can park close enough.
Tom,
Thanks ,again, for your reply. But, no, I was just using "Remagen" as my end point--thats why I had asked the original question.
OK, here's the definitive answer (I think...). When I entered "Remagen" into Google maps, the arrow points to an area in the middle of town, which if I remember correctly, is probably a pedestrian-only street. Remagen isn't very big, so it's pretty easy to find the museum... which I assume is the reason for your visit.
Tom,
Thanks for the info--and Thanks for taking the time!! Yes--we are hoping to take in the scenic drive along the Rhine, on the way to the Remagen Bridge.
