reserving trains from US

We already have our Eurail pass and are now wondering if you can make a train reservation, including overnight sleepers and couchette, before leaving the US. If so, how?
Thanks....

!?
You surely will not find better than the terms and conditions of use of the pass provider.

You have just discovered a well kept secret of rail passes. Reservations are not so easy to get before going over there and, when you can get them from over here, they are often much more expensive. However, reservations would have been readily available with online, point-to-point tickets. You can get just seat reservations for trains in Germany from the German Rail (Bahn) website, but reservations for day trains are almost never required in Germany. You can also get reservations for CNL night trains from the Bahn website. For trains in other countries, where reservations are often required, it is not so easy or inexpensive. For some trains (eg, TGV, Thalys) reservations are required and limited in quantity for passholders, so it is good to get them in advance. Night trains require reservations, and they often sell out for popular routes, so getting them in advance is recommended. You can get reservations from RailEurope, but they are marked up over the counter price in Europe. If you are getting multiple reservations, you can try Euraide. They sell reservations at European prices, but charge a one-time fee for consulting and shipping.

Click on the "Railpasses" tab at the top of the page you're reading now. You'll find information on making reservations, including night trains, and lots of other information about how passes work.

Thanks for the responses! When I go on the eurail site to try to make a reservation, it looks like I am buying a ticket. I don't want to buy a ticket ( I have a Eurail pass). I just want to make the reservation and get a sleeper. The only thing I have been able to find is a phone number to call. I think they will give me a reservation number that I turn in at the train station. Hope it is that easy. I will find out when I call tonight. Any other help is still appreciated.
Thanks

"When I go on the eurail site to try to make a reservation" Eurail (www.eurail.com) only sells passes, not reservations (or tickets). What site are you really using? Some people mistakenly believe RailEurope and Eurail are the same thing. They are not. If you are using the RailEurope site, use "Booking your Rail Pass Reservation" under Let's get started.

I think the site I was on was the Dbahn website. Can you make reservations from there when you have a pass?

You can make reservations on the Bahn website - for trains that run entirely in Germany. (Ironic, isn't it. Germany probably has the fewest trains requiring reservations and yet they are the easiest country for making reservations.) At the bottom of the Bahn Query page is a check box for "Reservation for seat only (no ticket)". Check that box and the rest should be obvious. Alternatively, if you don't check that box and go ahead with the query like you are going to purchase, after you click "Purchase" for your selektion (and after you decline the Bahn card offer), you will come to a page with three options for Reservations. The middle one is "Seat reservations only (no ticket)". That's for someone with a rail pass (also for someone with a Bahn Card 100 or someone who already purchased a ticket without a reservation and now wants one).
