Reserving train passes

Hi,
My girlfriend and I are planning a three week trip in europe. We just got our Eurail global passes and are now trying to book trains. However whenever we find the train we want to book on raileurope.com it only gives the full ticket price not the reservation price. Does anybody know how to get around this. Any hints would be much appreciated. Jake Madeira

On the opening page of the RailEurope website, where is says, "Check Fares and Schedules", there is a line that says, "Book a reservation for you Pass". Click that link and follow the instructions.

Thanks for the response Lee. But when I look to reserve through raileurope.com the train I want only shows the full price which is 291 Euros. Does this mean I can't reserve it with my pass?

It would really help if you would tell us the train, from/to, time. But it really does look like you've picked a train not covered by the Eurail pass.

Sleeper trains require purchase of the sleeping accommodation which is not covered by your pass. Some part of the travel portion may be covered but there is normally a global price. CNL is a private consortium.

Thanks a lot for the information Nigel. That sounds more like what I was expecting for reservation fees ect... Now I just need to figure out how to get the reservation locked up. I have read that travel agents can do this, or you can do it by phone for an additional cost, but I would like to find a way to do it online. Cheers.

You'll find better prices for "reservations" on that train if you use the German Rail website. When you get the first fare page, click "Book only extra charge" then "pass offer" on the next page. Right now the Bahn is offering a pass holder fare for 2 people in a deluxe double compartment for €130. At this late date, most accommodations are already sold out.

Hi Jake, on the Rail Europe home page, go to the bottom left under "book your trip" and click on "book reservations". Then you will enter your pass name, and the trip and date. Doing that, I see the reservation fees for your trip ranging from $151 for seat/couchette (it's not showing which just now) or $209 for double compartment. This is pretty high, I just booked double compartments for two trips (Basel-Prague and Berlin-Amsterdam) for $102 each. My Prague trip would have been much higher if I'd gone to the HLN station rather than the one on the outskirts of town, so perhaps there is a way to go to a different station and save on your trip, I'm not sure.
But that's how you get "reservation" fees, rather than full fare ticket prices.
