reserving seats for German CNL trains from Italy?

We have Eurail global passes, and will be starting our journey in Italy in the beginning of March. A week and a half later, we'll be traveling by train from Venice to Copenhagen. It looks like the best option for us will be catching a night train in Munich (CNL 482, most likely).

Is it possible to reserve space on the German CNL trains at the ticket counters in Italy, or will we need to call the German reservations number?

In the past, accommodations on the CNL trains from Italy to Munich have sold out well in advance. Reclining seats might still be available, but probably not beds; I'm not even sure I would bet on seats, considering there is just the one night train to Munich.

Make sure your railpass includes Austria.

Our pass covers all of western Europe.

The night train we're looking at is from Munich to Copenhagen, not from Venice to Munich. The Venice to Munich leg will be done during the day.

Looks like we might end up doing a combination of non-CNL trains, though, if they all book up that fast.
