Reserving cabin on CNL with partner from Europe

I'm lucky enough to have a new girlfriend in Berlin, and we're planning a 2 week trip in October. We want to take the CNL from Paris to Berlin in a Deluxe Bedroom on Oct. 29. I will have a Eurail Select Pass, and she will have a European Inter Rail Pass. We want to reserve the cabin as soon as possible. Any ideas on the best way to do this? Neither of us has purchased our rail pass yet.

You can book your sleeping accommodations on the German rail site, www.bahn.de. Click on the flag drop-down menu for English. Enter Paris, Berlin, 29 October, and 19:00. Click on the drop-down menu under adults and choose 2. Click on "Search." On the right-hand side of the listing for the 19:47 direct CNL train click on "Check availability" under either the Savings fares column or the Standard fare column. Enter your ages and click on "Refresh." For the second time click on "Check availability" under either fare column. Ignore all the fares listed and scroll to the bottom of the page. On the right-hand side click on "Book only extra charge." Click on the bullet point for "Pass offer" and then click on "Continue." Click on the bullet point showing the charge for "Two persons in Deluxe Double cabin" and then click on "Book selected offer." Proceed with booking an online ticket.

Now that I've given you that information, I need to ask if you have a set itinerary and specific dates for all your train rides. If so, booking point-to-point discount fare tickets in advance online for each trip may be cheaper than the cost of a railpass plus the cost of seat reservations and sleeping accommodation supplements. For example, if you're willing to settle for beds in an economy double sleeper rather than a deluxe double sleeper, you can get a Savings fare of €99/person for the Paris-Berlin night train. With a pass you'll still have to pay €60/person for a bed in either an economy or a deluxe double sleeper.

Thanks, Tim. I had actually gone thru the process you described, and figured it was too easy and inexpensive to be true. And I'm not yet sure my girlfriend will use her pass on that trip--something about it only being good outside her home country (Germany). But we will keep checking. Thanks again.
