We have German rail passes that are supposed to cover using the KD boat line on the Rhine. Will we need reservations or can we just get on at any stop with our rail pass? Also, can you get off and on between Mainz and Koblenz to sightsee? We are traveling this Sept. thanks.

Yes, you can use your rail pass for "free" travel on the KD boat, IF YOUR RAIL PASS IS VALIDATED FOR THAT DAY. No, you do not need reservations. Just get on the boat. It could be packed, but not likely in September. Understand that there is only one boat per day that goes all the way from Mainz to Koblenz and only four boats that go all of the way to Koblenz. Multiple hop on/off stops is not really a practical option.
