We will be traveling by train from Belgium to Germany and in Germany on some "Reservation only" trains. How and when do you reserve your seat on these?
If you purchase your tickets in advance, either thru RailEurope or similar, or through the German national rail website at www.bahn.de (the preferred and cheaper choice,) then your reservation is included in your ticket. All-in tickets for across Germany can be had for as low as 29 Euro if booked far enough in advance. If you have a rail pass, then you will have to make reservations separately. Those can be made thru RailEurope or similar, but are more expensive. Some on the board have said that seat reservations alone can be made on the bahn.de website, but I have not been able to track that down. You can always call them for reservations at 011-49-1805-996633. Be aware that reservations for rail pass holders are very limited.
Norm, go to the Bahn query page, http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en. Put in Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Fernbahnhof as start and Muenchen Hbf as end and the date a few days in advance. Click "Purchase" for any of the connections, and one of the options will be "Seat Reservations Only (for self print)". It also indicates that reservations only are 4 Euro. This should work for almost any express train (ICE/IC/EC) connection.
Lee...Thanks.....I never spotted that (altho never needed it)....I guess probably because I thought it would be under "Seat reservations."....not "ticket." Silly me!
