RER vs. SNCF vs. TGV....

We are trying to keep our transportation budget as low as possible and intend to purchase the appropriate passes. We will be in Paris for two weeks in July.
Besides the usual accessible by Metro, we will be traveling through zone 6. However we are confused about additional day/overnight trips that may or not be covered by the various passes"

For a page listing all your Paris transportation ticket and pass options, with links to detailed explanations of each one, go here.

Melun, the station closest to Vaux le Vicompte, is in zone 6. Vernon, the station closest to Giverny, is well beyond zone 6 so no Paris transportation pass will cover you for that trip. The only passes that would cover either Vernon or Chamonix would be Eurail passes that include France.

Thank you both! I lived in Paris for years as a student... in the 80s. Things have changed. : )
