What stop,or stops, in Paris can I pick up this train at?
Thanks. Max H.
you will find all the information you need at
www.transilien.com Ask for La Ligne de la Rive Gauche with stops at le Louvre,Musée d'Orsay,Les Invalides Tour Eiffel ect. This line will bring you the closer to the castle.Last summer they had a special pass including transport from Paris and admission fee for the day at Versailles. That was a good deal.
You can connect to the RER train to Versailles for just about anywhere in Paris....it's tied into the Metro system as well, so you can pay for the ticket all the way out at a Metro ticket office. Go to http://www.ratp.info/informer/anglais/index.php . You can plan your journey from there, and also access the RER and Metro maps. The Chateau is on the yellow C-5 line at the end of the line....look for C-5 trains designated "Versailles-Rive Gauche." The "forfait loisirs" passes which included admission and transportation are no longer available. However, you can avoid long ticket lines by now purchasing in advance on the Chateau's website, http://www.chateauversailles.fr/en/
I went to Versailles a few weeks ago and did not have a line to buy my train ticket. I asked for the pass (I think it's called Le Passport) that included the train and the ticket to Versailles, but was told they were not available any longer. I don't know if that is true. I was also told at Gare de Nord that the one week (Monday-Sunday) metro pass was no longer available and I would have to buy the Paris Visite pass for much more money. I didn't buy it, and found out the pass I wanted was available. The guy just wanted to sell me a more expensive pass. Anyway, I digress. The RER C train is what you want. When you are on the metro the train has maps of the stops and what connections are at what stops. The metro is very easy to navigate. Just remember to see what the last stop is for the direction you want to go and take that train. As for Versailles, when you get off the train the Chateau is only about a five minute walk from the station. Have a great time!
