If I need to get to a RER C station, can I use my RER C ticket to get in at a regular station and go to the RER C station then get on the RER C train and use the same ticket to exit the station in Versailles?
I do
have an RER c ticket, so I think I'm covered. Thanks
Yes
Actually, the correct answer is both yes and no. Yes, the RER tickets can be used on the Metro. BUT - Versailles is not in the central Paris Metro zone. You must either have an RER ticket that covers the zone to Versailles or buy an extra ticket just for going to Versailles. Exit at Versailles is through turnstiles that open when you slide your ticket through. They won't open if you have the wrong ticket.
There's no such thing as an RER C ticket. C is an RER line. To travel essentially within the peripherique (or a bit outside) you use a regular metro ticket that works on either the metro or the rer. To travel outside of Zone 1, you need a 'Billet Ile-de-France; these vary in price according to the distance between stations. Central Paris to Versailles is four euro, I think. Read Doughlas's last sentenence five times.
Maybe you can go on this train. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2171124/Paris-commuter-train-carriages-transformed-resemble-rooms-Palace-Versailles.html
And don't forget to bring your own toilet paper.
