I know there is Europe Car. Is there any other good car rental companies?
europecar has a 3 day mininum. I just need a car for 2 days. Is that standard?
do you advise to buy the extra insurance? I hear some credit card companys offer that protection. Thanks
hi stew i am not sure about your 3 days minimum, i have just return my rental from munich to lindau, we had it for 1 day only, and had good service with europcar.
All the rental car companies you see in North America are pretty much in Europe. Just shop around for the best price. Depending on where you are traveling, buying the extra insurance may be a good idea (Italy for one) and you may want to check what your CC company covers. It can be a paid to get reimbursed as well...
I've used Sixt, which I don't believe operates in North America. I found their rental policies were quite flexible and avoided many of the little hidden fees that many of the US companies charge.
Europcar has a 3-day minimum? I rented a car for 1 day from them with no problem.
Hi Stew.. We use Europ Car in Italy, but we have always used Hertz in France,. Our travel agent arranges it all from here, and every year we get a discount.Hertz has been very nice to us, giving us upgrades, etc.Last year they gave us an upgrade to a Prius, as they were pushing their "green" line.We saved lots on gas. France is a small country, and we really did not have to fill up much.
I've rented from Europcar many times. There isn't a 3 day minimum, its just that renting for at least 3 days + gives best value. Often a 2 day rental will cost virtually the same as the daily rate 3 days +.
I've taken the 3 day rental and just returned it after 2 days because it would cost the same.
I've never bought extra insurance, most credit card companies have coverage. But I've also never had an accident, so I can't speak for whether or not its sufficient enough.
I've used Argus for car rentals in Scotland and Ireland. They are a broker and have great rates that include CDW and other insurance. They work with all the main companies to get the best rate all over the world. I was very happy with my rentals through them and will book again for my trip in March.
Good luck.
If the OP found there is a 3 day minimum, there probably is for her location. Last time I rented in France it was in Bordeaux wine country, and the Hertz counter there also had a 3 day minimum.
Did you try Auto Europe? They are sort of a consolidater for all the major brands.
