We will be in Sweden in July. There will be 6 of us. I was just told by a rental car agency that for 6 people we would need to rent a van (and was quoted over $1,000 for 6 days). They said that a van has room for 6 people but no luggage. (Consequently we reserved a car for 4 people which will hold luggage, and the Swedish couple will drive their own car.) Has anyone had any experience with renting a vehicle that holds 6 people and luggage? Thanks.

We leased a seven passenger car (similar to a station wagon) for our family one trip. We were self, spouse, children - boys 15 and 11, girl 7. The car was just right for us, enough room for everyone to sit comfortably and pack one carry-on (just a daypack for the 7 yr old) each. If we had been larger people or brought more luggage, we wouldn't have been comfortable. It's a mistake to overestimate the size of rental cars. If they say it seats four adults and holds two bags, they aren't kidding; the extra bags are going on someones' laps.
