We are taking a train to the Cinque Terra, but want to then drive into Tuscany. How do I get from the Cinque Terra to a car? Take a train into a nearby city? Which one?
Thank you!
Auto Europe lists La Spezia as a pick up point. I doubt if you can find anything closer to the Cinque Terre.
I recall researching the rental car place in La Spezia sometime back. As I recall, the AutoEurope place was not really near the train station. You might want to check the address and look it up on Google maps. You might have to take a taxi to the rental car place.
Another option would be to pick up the car in Pisa, possibly at the airport which can be easily reached by train from Cinque Terre.
I helped with the research on rental car locations in La Spezia. Autoeurope uses two locations, neither particularly close to the train station, but one seemed to be walkable. I agree with the suggestion about Pisa, with the caveat to allow enough time to get to Pisa by train and then out to the airport - which isn't far. The advantage is that you don't have to deal with much urban traffic once you pick up the car and drive to where you want to go to in Tuscany.
