I would like to rent at car in Paris (doing very little driving in France), take the Eurotunnel (an approved PETS route since will be traveling with my dog) and then travel to England, North Somerset area. Is there anyway to rent a Right hand drive car in France to take and probably return in England?
You should ask your rental company. There is usually a large fee for renting in one country and dropping off in another. And have you checked into the regulations concerning taking your dog into the UK from France?
When did a combintion of rental car, trains and plane a few years ago our research showed us the drop off fees from France to Uk was huge.....remember that uk drives onthe other side of the road as france.
Something to keep in mind.
I would say make your way to UK adn then rent a car there.
Yes, I've spent alot of time on the traveling with a pet bit, it's complicated. I think I'm good but wouldn't mind exchanging emails with someone who has done it.
I don't want to fly into the UK with my dog (they will only let her in cargo, they don't allow small pets in cabin like elsewhere), that is why we want to enter the UK through France. All approved PETS routes (from what I am seeing) are car ferries (both boat and train), so I have to travel w/ the car to the UK.
Yes, I'm aware of driving on the left, that's why I was hoping I could rent the car set up for right hand drive in France to take over (where I will do most of my driving.
Great link, thanks. Yes, I know the hassle. that is why debating the car rental, eurotunnel option.
Does anyone think I could hire a car from England to come meet me on the French side and take us across? then rent car in England? anybody know of a driver who is flexible?
I know it sounds nuts to do this with a dog, but we will hopefully be asked to represent US in an international agility competition - the reason for the trip.
"Option 3, take a normal domestic UK train train to Dover (dogs go free of charge), a ferry across the Channel, then a domestic French train to Paris. See the London-Paris train+ferry page for train and ferry times and fares. There's a problem here too, as most ferry companies do not allow foot passengers to take pets, only motorists. However, P&O Ferries (Dover-Calais & other routes) will now accept cats or small dogs with foot passengers under the PETS travel scheme, as long as the dog has the appropriate veterinary cover and documentation, and is carried in an approved PDSA carrier at all times whilst on the ferry. Please confirm by calling P&O Ferries."
Wouldn't this option be ok, as your pet is small and it's only about an hours journey time?
