Rental Cars at 19yo?

Hi,

I've been considering traveling Europe via train versus Car for sometime now. After seeing the comments of others it seems like the best option for me would be to take trains and then rent cars locally for short excursions. The only problem there is that I am 19 years old. In researching rental companies I haven't found any companies that will rent cars to anyone under 21. This is why I had considered driving europe in a leased car from Renault (age requirement is only 18) in lieu of trains, however this will likely be more expensive and more stressful (but I'll get off the beaten path a bit). Any thoughts, does anyone know of any companies that rent to those under 21?

Thanks for your help!

Regards,
Blake

You didn't say how long you'd be in Europe. I traveled 15,000 miles around Europe in a VW Camper Van that I bought from an Australian Couple in London for $3,000. It served as home and transportation for 6 months. When I was ready to come home, I sold it to a New Zealand couple for $3,000. So the cost of travel was the cost of gas. The best thing about having your own home on wheels is wherever you go, you're home. You can park almost anywhere for the night. Just park on the street and pull all the curtains and go to sleep. It also saves you bigtime on food. You can shop in the stores and cook your own meals.
There's a place in London where travelers buy and sell Camper Vans. It only took a couple days to sell mine. I often wonder how many times my van had made the loop around Europe with a new Traveler.
I hope you have a good time traveling, however you do it. Don't write off trains, there alot of fun too. Happy Trails, Steve
