Rental car return

Hi All,
I'm renting a car upon arrival at Athens airport and traveling to Meteora for a few days before the RS Greece tour in early March.
I'm wondering if anyone knows if there is a rental return place close to Athens, (but not in Athens) so I don't have to return it at the airport then find my way back to Athens to meet the tour. Thanks!

Does this mean you are planning on a 220+ mile drive immediately after a flight from Seattle? ( probably overnight ?)

If so, you may want to reconsider.

Apart from the questionable strategy of driving right after a long flight (assuming
it is a long flight) the question of rental car return location options depends entirely
on which agency you rent from, which you haven't mentioned here.

I would say renting and returning at the airport will get you the best rate in most
cases, and the xport options to get back to downtown Athens are plentiful. If you
return the car someplace in the suburbs, you're going to have to research how to
get from there back into the city. Could be easy or could be a pain.

Spending the night in Rafina, then onto adventures beyond. I just didn't want to bore with mundane details.

You may have already covered this, but it's mandatory to have an International Driver's Permit for driving in Greece. If you're ever involved in any kind of "traffic incident" and can't produce one, you'll be in a world of misery. You can obtain IDP's easily at any AAA / CAA office for a small fee. These are valid for one year and must be used in conjunction with your home D.L.

In 2022 Greece eliminated international license requirement if your license is in English.

We have always rented from and returned to airport as we thought that was easier than trying to go into Athens at all. You can then take a bus, metro, or taxi into Athens.

Beth,

Thanks for the update on IDP's in Greece.
