Rental Car Preferences

We are travelling to Europe this year. We have four adults and will need a vehicle than can seat us comfortably and accommodate our luggage. We will need a vehicle that can hold 4 large suitcases along with a couple of carry-on bags or so. We also want a vehicle that allows us to view the scenery. We will be touring through Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and Northern Italy. I have found a Renault Grand Scenic and a BMW 3-Series Station Wagon. Would one of these work? If so, which one would be the best fit for us or is their another vehicle that would fit better. Thanks for any help you can give me.

That assumes the rental office is going to give you exactly what you ask for. Unfortunately they might actually give you, not necessarily the car you book, but a "similar" one. In any case both are adequate for 4 people with one bag each.

How long will you need a car? If it is for 17+ days, you might consider leasing. I did a lease through Auto Europe because I needed a specific kind of vehicle to accommodate 4-5 with luggage and up to 7 without. I was able to lease a minivan with captains seats in the middle. It was very comfortable for the people sitting in them. When you lease you get exactly the vehicle you order. It's brand new and full insurance is included. It's worth checking out if you meet the minimum time criteria.

Deanne, Two suggestions: can you get your four suitcases down to 22" and a small carry on instead of large suitcases? You should be able to bring the same size for one week or two months. Wash and wear as you go. The only long-term supplies that you couldn't get there would be prescription meds. Second, how about getting a vehicle with the luggage carrying case that fits on the roof.
