We are renting a car in the Netherlands and plan to drive to Germany and drop off there. Can any suggest a town outside Berlin where we could drop off car and take train into the city so we wouldn't have to drive the car in? I realize we would have to find rental company that has an office in this town. Thanks for advice.

Rebecca, any city with a fairly major train depot should have rental car locations nearby. I don't know of one being better than another.
One thing to keep in mind is that many car rental places beyond ones in airports are generally closed on Sundays and sometimes on Saturdays. You'll be dropping your key in a night deposit box if you need to drop off the car on a weekend.
