With a group of 6, it made sense to rent a car. In America, it is highly advisable to buy the insurance through your existing car insurance policy rather than buying it through the Rental Car Company. Any advice for coverage on a rental car in Europe? (My VISA doesn't have it.)

Are you sure that your VISA card won't provide collision coverage? If your card provides collision coverage for cars you rent in the USA, allowing you to decline the CDW coverage offered by the rental company, then it's possible that it will work the same way in Europe. There are exceptions for some countries. In what country or countries will you be renting a car? What is the total number of days you will be using a rental car?

We have used the AmEx rental insurance plan for rentals in France and Spain. It is $24.95 for the term of the rental (i.e., not a per day cost).

If you are buying travel insurance, which I highly recommend, CSA covers not only the normal travel costs but it also covers car insurance.
