I reserved a car with Budget and took the CDW insurance but they do not appear to offer Super Collision Damage Waiver. The terms say that even with CDW insurance I am still responsible for paying up to 15,000 euros if in an accident. What is the best company to rent a car from in Fez? Does this sound right- how at risk am I? Will insurance thru my credit card cover this?
Often (usually?) super cdw is purchased at the counter when you pick up the car. It's additional, of course. MC has gotten shakey about cdw - - I read something about it now only being good for a couple of weeks. Neither visa nor mc list Morocco as an excepted country. Years ago I switched to just using AmExp with their twenty-five bucks per rental period deal. I know it covers Morocco. Do some digging and find it in writing.
This does get confusing. My friends has a Signature Visa and they sent her a letter confirming that if she denies the CDW offered by Budget in Fes, that the credit card will cover the theft and actual cash value of the car in case of collision under their Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver Benefit.
Since you reserved the car and your friend is using their credit card there could be potential problems if the contract is in your name and the credit card is hers, being this is a foreign country and may have laws unique to them in this regard. Excuse my curiosity, everyone that I've known thats visited Morocco had done this as a day trip or at least without a car, do you really need a car for your time there, if not it just seems like it's not only an unnecessary expense but a possible recipe for disaster, have you or your friend ever driven in Morocco or anywhere in that part of the world?
'everyone that I've known thats visited Morocco had done this as a day trip or at least without a car' Allow me to introduce myself: one day trip without a car (when I was either ten or eleven) maybe six trips since, totalling a couple of months, all with a car And, I'm nowhere close to unique. Driving in Morocco is just like anywhere else: start engine, use pedals and wheel, don't hit stuff. There's an interesting kernel in there, however. Maybe just daytrips for England, France, Germany...........?
I'll be in Morocco for about 10 days and wanted to do some of it a la Rick Steve's to see some of the out of the way places. I have lived in West Africa and driven motor scooters in particular which are fun until a goat runs in front of you and makes you lay it down. Thanks for all your advice as it will come in handy.
Well Ed, since I don't know you I stand by what I said. You might want to refamiliarize yourself with Community Guidelines #3 and 5, a response such as yours comes across as condesending. As with many posts on the board people ask questions about rental cars while in Europe, sometimes those cars are more than some people need. Kathy explained her situation nicely of being there for 10 days, renting a car in some parts of Europe and Africa can be a dangerous situation that can best be avoided if a car is not needed. The U.S. State Dept website has warnings of driving in Morocco that is too long to go into on this website.
