Rental Car in Europe question on license

My drivers license expires on Aug 11 2016. I will be in the UK from June 15-June 31 2016.

When I flew domestically about a month ago, the TSA agent warned me to get the license renewed. He said that I wouldn't be able to go through security next time if it was close to being expired. While I will use my passport to get through security on this upcoming trip, is this actually true?

Second question--will I have any issue renting a car in the UK with my license this close to expiring?

Hmmmm......
Why are you posting on July 11 for a trip you have taken from June 15 - 31?

I gotta believe that June is a typo and Jenny means July 15 to July 31. Especially because June has only 30 days. As to the license, it should be valid at the time of travel and I do not think that the agent is correct that a soon-to-expire license would bar you from going through security. It may be a problem for that particular person but I don't think that it is a rule. The TSA rules say "valid" identification and until it expires your license is valid. Plus, you can get through TSA with no ID at all if you forget your license at home so it makes no sense that they would not let you through with one that was 10 days away from expiring. I don't think that you will have a problem renting a car in the UK but that is my best guess and not a statement based on personal experience.

Must be a time warp. Posted earlier but delivered now. Strange.

However, the TSA also is very good at making up rules as they go along. An agent could very well decide that license with 30 days to go is invalid. What are you going to do argue? My son was recent delayed because he did not have a valid id for his 3 month old daughter. Pushed rules clearly state that an id is not needed but the supervision let him go - as favor, just this one time.

If a passport is used for identification, the TSA doesn't require any drivers license. They don't want to see any more information than they require--and a passport works.
Now if you rented a car, they'd require the drivers license.

Jenny,

Yes, you may have some issues renting a car in the U.K. if the license is that close to expiry. I'd suggest getting the license renewed ASAP, and then you won't have to worry about it. How long does license renewal normally take in your area?

I just renewed my D.L. here, and it was one week to the day until I had the new license in hand.

Hi Jenny. Just my opinion, but (assuming you meant July 15-31) hard to imagine how a rental place could balk since your license will be 100% valid during your entire rental period. The issue with passport expiry dates is that the country admitting you doesn't know for sure when you will be leaving. But in this case, since the car rental has a specific end date that is within your license validity, hard to imagine that it could be a problem. If still concerned, just call the rental place and ask them. Enjoy your trip!

If I was going to Europe and planning to rent a car, and there was absolutely any question about whether they would accept my license, I would renew it before I left home. I don't know how long this process takes in California, but in Florida I could be in and out of the license bureau in 30 minutes - one hour tops! Is the expending of that little bit of effort so great that you would risk spoiling a 1000's of dollar vacation because of it?

TSA (aka Testicles Searching Agency) will not need your DL if you present your passport.
As the rental requirement is concerned, just call the rental office in the UK where you will be renting from and ask. I believe they do speak some form of English.

The TSA agent was playing "I can make up a rule again"

"close to being expired" Uh NO! If it's valid than it's not their place to say ANYTHING! If you get Mr. "I made up a rule" just ask for his supervisor. Amazingly he will suddenly remember that 'it's fine today" LOL!

Do NOT argue, just ask the bully for his/her supervisor. Be nice, but firm.

These games make me furious, they can't find guns, but they can harass people with their games????
