I fly to Croatia and there plan to rent a car for travel within Croatia, do I need an international drivers license?
Lowen, According to the official U.S. State Department website: "According to Croatian law, U.S. citizens visiting Croatia for tourism or business may use a U.S. driver's license for up to three months, but should also have an International Driver's Permit." Note that the terminology specifies this as an "International Driver's Permit". It is NOT a license per se, and must be used in conjunction with your home D.L. If you'd like to have a look at the website, here's the link: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1095.html Happy travels!
If you are stopped by the police, you will want them to be able to easily tell that your US drivers license is valid. The IDP is a translation of your license into several languages.
