I will be arriving in Venice and will pick up a rental at Marco Polo Airport.
Has anyone used "Economy Car Rentals.com"? They have the best prices but have not heard of them. They are like the "Travelocity" of car rentals. Avis and Hertz are more expensive, and Budget is in between. Any help or input would be appreciated. Thanks.
Vivien, have you gone to the Autoeurope.com website and played with all of their options, to see what the best price will be for the type of car that you need? We found that picking up a car at the airport or train station is the most costly option. Sometimes a cab ride to town can save you big $$$$. Autoeurope and Gemut are two wonderful brokers that handle all of the majors in the EU. AE is based in Maine. We generally use them for all of our EU auto rentals. We go to their web site, pick our car and location, and then reserve it here. Another option is to go to Kayak.com and see what pricing you can find there. Don't forget to bring your GPS, a small Michelin fold out map of Italy, your drivers license, and your International Driver's Permit (that you get at your local AAA)
If you're arriving in Venice, I'd assume you're spending some time in Venice. In which case, you don't need to pick up a rental car right away. You can pick one up at the Piazzale Roma when you're ready to leave Venice. The suggestions for Autoeurope are good. They will often match any other deals you can find and they have a 24/7 toll-free number to call if you need help.
