Has anyone rented with Europecar and let them fill the tank when dropping off the car in France. We drop off at the Toulouse Airport and having no idea where the nearest gas station is it would be a lot less stress to let them handle it. We can fill up at a town that is about 50km from the airport so it would not be empty. I know we would pay a higher rate for the gas but I know there is also a fee for this. It's this fee I'm looking for.
Thanks
We drove to Toulouse Airport from Carcasonne along the autoroute. We bought fuel on the autoroute just before we got to the airport and so avoided this problem.
Mary, we had the same thought you did last year but changed our minds when we were told the fill up fee was 50 euros plus the price of the gas. Our rental was from Hertz so your charge could be different.
Go to www.viamichelin.com then under "Display your Map" enter Toulouse. On the map the blue squares with the gas pump icon show locations of stations. Looks like there are a few near the airport including on or near the autoroutes.
I do see some gas stations but would prefer to avoid that and just let Europecar top up the car when I drop it off. I'm wondering what the cost is for this, above the somewhat higher cost of the gas itself. There is a fee they charge to do that and I'm looking to see what this fee is.
Thanks Mary
Mary, In looking at my January 2011 Europecar contract, it says "After 5 rental days, client will be charged for a full tank of fuel." Also, "For rentals less than 5 days, client is advised to return vehicle with a full fuel tank, and to retain copies of fuel receipts." We had the car almost two weeks. When we dropped it off, we were charged a licensee fee, (9,00 euros), an ecological fee, (28,00 euros), and the full tank fee, as we brought it back as close to empty as possible. (86,00 euros). This brought the total more than the quote we had gotten from Sixt Rental. It rubbed us the wrong way a little, but we had had a tremendous time in Germany, Spain and France, and the car was brand new and ran really fast and sporty.
You have to weigh the price of the fuel charge against how much it would cost you to fill it yourself. When we rented in Ireland with Irish Car Rentals, we were charged a fuel charge at the outset. We were told to bring the car back empty. I knew from previous experience, though, that if we brought it back full instead we would have the initial fuel charge refunded (and it was). For our weeklong trip, we spent about 51 euros on fuel and had the 75 euro charge refunded promptly.
We booked with Autoeurope and have our car with Europecar. I e-mailed Europecar in Toulouse and they said I can purchase an add on for 57.27 euros + tax and then can bring the car back empty and pay no additional charges. I think the tax (VAT) will be around 19% so another 11 euros. This is about $96 U.S. It must be close to that for a full tank of gas. I hope this is true.
